Franchising FAQs

The investment required to open an ABK franchise will vary from $450k-$550k+GST depending on the location, store format and build requirements.

Factors that may influence the total investment include:

  • Store size and format (inline, kiosk or shopfront)

  • Fit-out requirements

  • Existing condition of the tenancy

  • Landlord contributions

  • Equipment requirements

Our franchise team can discuss estimated investment costs once a suitable opportunity has been identified.

Yes. Similar to purchasing any business, there are costs beyond the purchase price. These may include:

  • Legal and accounting fees

  • Franchise documentation fees

  • Training costs

  • Initial stock

  • Bank guarantees or security bonds

  • First month's rent

  • Working capital

All costs payable to the franchisor are fully disclosed in the Franchise Disclosure Document in accordance with the Franchising Code of Conduct.

Our preference is for franchise businesses to be owner-operated by hands-on franchise partners.

However, investor applications may be considered where the applicant can demonstrate appropriate business experience and has a suitable management structure in place to operate the business in accordance with ABK's operational standards.

ABK franchisees contribute to the ongoing growth and support of the network through:

  • Royalty Fee: 6% of Gross Sales + GST

  • Marketing Contribution: 3% of Gross Sales + GST

  • Other Operational Fees (where applicable): Software subscriptions and other services required to operate the business.

These fees enable ongoing investment in marketing, technology, operations, training and continuous brand development.

The most successful franchise partners are actively involved in their business, particularly during the first 12 to 18 months.

As the business grows and experienced teams are developed, many franchisees transition into a more semi-managed operation.

Working capital requirements vary depending on the location and business performance.

Franchisees should ensure they have sufficient funds to cover operating expenses such as wages, rent, utilities and stock during the establishment period.

We recommend planning conservatively to provide your business with the strongest possible start.

Every approved franchisee completes ABK's comprehensive training program, covering:

  • Store operations

  • Food preparation and food safety

  • Customer service

  • Business systems and reporting

  • Team leadership

  • Pre-opening preparation

  • Grand opening support

Training is mandatory regardless of previous hospitality or business experience.

Our support extends well beyond opening day and includes:

  • Operations support

  • Training and coaching

  • National marketing

  • Local store marketing

  • Technology and POS support

  • Procurement support

  • Business performance reviews

  • Leasing and franchise support

Our goal is to help franchise partners build profitable, sustainable businesses.

ABK carefully assesses every potential location based on:

  • Demographics

  • Foot traffic

  • Competition

  • Accessibility

  • Rental costs

  • Long-term commercial viability

Franchisees are welcome to suggest locations, however all sites require final approval by ABK.

All prospective franchisees are responsible for undertaking their own due diligence before committing to a site.

The franchise term is generally aligned with the lease term, which is commonly five years, with further options where available.

Yes.

Franchisees may sell their business, subject to Head Office approving the incoming purchaser and the sale transfer meeting the requirements of the Franchise Agreement and the Franchising Code of Conduct.

Every store is different.

The sale price is influenced by factors including:

  • Financial performance

  • Profitability

  • Lease conditions

  • Operating costs

  • Equipment and asset condition

  • Required refurbishment works

  • Current market demand

Yes.

All approved franchisees are required to complete the full training program, regardless of previous business or hospitality experience.

Training generally runs for approximately 4–6 weeks and ensures every franchise partner understands the ABK operating system before opening.

ABK does not provide finance or financial advice.

Prospective franchisees must demonstrate they have sufficient funds or borrowing capacity to purchase and operate the business.

You may also be asked to provide financial information during the application process so we can assess your financial capacity.

No.

Previous hospitality experience is not essential.

Many successful ABK franchisees come from a wide range of professional backgrounds. Our training program is designed to provide the operational knowledge and systems required to run the business successfully.

Strong leadership, customer service and business management skills are highly valued.

To maintain product consistency and quality across the network, franchisees are required to purchase approved products from ABK's approved supplier network.

This ensures customers enjoy the same great experience at every location.

If a store experiences challenges, ABK works closely with franchisees to identify opportunities for improvement.

Support may include:

  • Operational reviews

  • Coaching and mentoring

  • Business performance planning

  • Additional training

  • Marketing support

Your success is our success, and we're committed to helping franchise partners build strong, profitable businesses.
